A Brief Guide to PI Colour Groups
There are quite a few Colour groups on PonyIsland these days, and the list is growing all the time. Some are connected to the Azuyan RolePlay, some with various Associations, and others purely related to the interests of various player groups. This is an attempt to provide a brief guide to the ones used on the Colour Matcher and provide links to more details about each of them available on PI. It is not a definitive guide, more of a starting point.
If you believe a colour group has been omitted and should be available on this Colour Matcher, then please contact Matchmaker on PI. Please be aware that I will only add in groups that are either an official part of the game or have an official Club or are part of an Association, and have been in existence for six months at least. Any clubs should aim to have around 30 members in order to be considered for addition to the Matcher, although I am flexible about member numbers. New colours will be added at my discretion.
It is important to note that some colours fall into more than one group. It's up to you which group you want to use for your pony.
NB The Azuyan Association regularly undergoes reorganisation of threads. Every effort is made to keep thread links here up to date but sometimes threads are moved. If you are a member of Azuyan you can check the new world-building or showcase forums for more information about the public clusters listed here.

Standard Pure Colours
Pure Colours
The 8 pure colours are:
![[Pure Colours]](images/pure_colours.gif)
The word 'pure' when used on PI in relation to colours only applies to these 8 colours and some shades of grey. This quotation originally came from the PI Bulletin board, and applies to the definition of 'pure':
The entire site uses and recognizes these 8 main colors. No other colors have single 'pure' codes because there is too much variety and disagreement between users on which exact codes to use, therefore it was decided by the community not to use the term 'pure' for any colors except these eight. The only current exception is 'Pure Grey' which is any code that forms an identical triplet, such as #D1D1D1 or |182|182|182|.

Pure Greys
Pure greys are any colour with repeating triplets, such as #A5A5A5 or 202|202|202. They fall into 16 categories, ranging from the palest near-white shade (#EFEFEF or 254|254|254) to the darkest near-black (#010101 or 001|001|001):
These 16 main classes of greys are shown below:

Azuyan Standard Colours
NB: Here you can find a handy summary of all the relevant recognised Azuyan colours in one thread. You don't need to be a member of Azuyan to access this thread, it's open to all.
Colour Legions (Includes GAP colours)
Find out more about the Azuyan Legions for which these elemental colours are particularly relevant in the Azuyan Showcase. Your pony doesn't have to be an LSPP supporter to use these Legion colours. The exact same colours are used by KORR except then they are called Hordes of KORR. The Colour Legions also include all the 8 Pure Colours shown above. Sometimes you will come across the term GAP colours These are the even intervals between the Pure Colours, such as 9900FF, 663300, etc; in fact, the GAP colours are identical to the Elemental Legion colours, minus the eight Pure Colours described above. It's just another non-Azuyan name for those colours.
You may wonder why some of the colours are listed as being in more than one Legion. This is because some colours overlap into the next group. If you study the colour charts you will be able to see this more clearly. In such cases you can choose which Legion you would rather your pony joins , but he/she cannot be in both. For example, if your pony has the hex FF0033 (255|000|033) then he/she can join either a Twilight or a Flame Legion but not both, as that shade falls into both groups.

KORR
Lord KORR has his own special colours, the KORR Exclusives. Some of these shades overlap with other groups, such as A0A0A0 which is also a shade of pure grey. Your pony does not have to be a follower of KORR to use these colours. For instance, KORR's Rubies can just be called Ruby on ponies with no allegiance.

Grey Legion
Grey Legions are made up of particular shades of the Pure Greys described above, separated into Pale Grey, Medium Grey, Dark Grey and Elite Grey Legions, each having 36 shades of grey. Grey Legions are particularly affiliated with the Gray Order and the associated Gray Isles.
Find out more about the
Grey Legions and their colours in the Azuyan Showcase.
The Gray Order (an Azuyan roleplaying group that is neither affiliated with LSPP nor KORR) has a particular interest in the grey shades. You can find out more about the GO on ABVS's website and in the Azuyan thread introducing the Gray Order.
The Gray Council has its own PI account as does the leader of the Gray Order, ABVS.

Non-Azuyan Groups
Banana
The Banana colours originate from an idea of Indie's in the VBGA:
When I added a poll in VBGA, the choice for people who didn't care was Banana! And I said if that got the most votes I'd make a banana pony to be president of the VBGA.
Obviously, the 'don't care' vote won and so Banana ponies came into official existence! They come from the Banana Isles. The actual colour chart was put together by jadzhia (now Matchmaker) in late 2008 with help from other Banana enthusiasts who helped to tweak the colour choices.
The Banana Club has now become part of the Mosaic Colour Cooperative, found in the Clubs forum.

R0b0t & Steampunk
These colours arise from an idea that orginally began over on the VBGA, inspired by Rocket's R0b0t Unicorn, and Smudged's idea to have a colour chart celebrating robotic colours. Later on, after Matchmaker started the R0b0t Club, she became very interested in all things Steampunk and decided to modify the existing R0b0t colours to include those of a Steampunk nature. Now the club is part of the Mosaic Colour Cooperative, found on the Clubs forum.
